What Is The Range Of A Sur Ron? Real Riders, Real Riding Conditions

What is the range of the Sur Ron

What is the range of a Sur Ron is one of the most asked questions, but the problem is we have read multiple articles that give different answers? So we decided to find out what the range of a Sur Ron is from real riders under real riding conditions. We did this for all three Sur Ron Models but the answer is a difficult one since there are so many variables to the exact range of a Sur Ron.

The range of a Sur Ron bike is between 62 and 65 miles (100 to 105km) for the Sur Ron X and the Sur Ron Storm Bee. The range for the Sur Ron Light Bee S is 43 miles (70km). However, these ranges are from the Sur Ron website and are not what riders are actually getting on the roads or on the trails.

There are a lot of variables to the actual range of a Sur Ron bike regardless of the model you want to buy. If you decide to do a long trip based on what the official Sur Ron website claims is the maximum range you might be stranded somewhere long before you reach your destination. Let’s find out why.

What Is The Range Of A Sur Ron Under Real Riding Conditions?

The range of the Sur Ron that is indicated on the official Sur Ron website or from the dealers was likely attained with the most ideal conditions. With conditions such as a steady mid-range speed, a smaller rider, a flat hard surface, and no wind or hills you might obtain the official range of 62 and 65 miles (100 to 105km) at about 20mph (32kph). However, that is not what real world riding is going to be like.

Expected Range Of The Sur Ron Light Bee X

Trail Riding Range Of A Sur Ron: Actual riders doing real trail riding on the Sur Ron X report getting around18 to 30 miles (29 to 48km). The reason for the variance is due to how hard they ride. On slower technical trails, riders are reporting over 40 miles and ride times up to 3 hours. But with fast trail riding where you are constantly on and off the throttle you can expect closer to 20 miles and a ride time between 75 minutes to 90 minutes.

Road Riding Range Of A Sur Ron: On the road, riders report an average of 50 to 60 miles. That range will also depend on how much you are on and off the throttle, and your average top speed. If you are full throttle you will get far less range than you will if you are at an average speed of 20 miles per hour. You will also get a lot more range with fewer inclines.

Modes And Range: These ranges will also depend on which mode you are in, there are 5 modes found on some Sur Ron bikes with the 2 most common modes being Sport Mode and Eco Mode. You will get a lot more range in Eco Mode than you will in Sport Mode. You can read more about Sur Ron modes on our page The 5 Sur Ron Modes Explained.

Rider Size And Sur Ron Range: Another thing that will affect your range will be rider weight. A large rider between 200 and 260 pounds will get less range than a rider between 100 and 150lbs. You can read more about Sur Ron Rider size and capacity on our page What Is The Sur Ron Weight Capacity or Sur Ron Rider Size: What’s Too Big, Too Small, And Just Right

Terrain And Sur Ron Range: Something else that will affect your range will be the terrain you ride on. Sand, gravel, and dirt riding will give you less range than hard paved roads. Your wheels may also contribute to range differences. Riders with dirt wheels will get less range than riders with a less aggressive tread on a street tire.

Air Temps: When riding in very cold your battery will likely die faster and your range will also be a lot less. We are hoping to hear from riders about how much range they get when riding at temperatures near the freezing mark.

Sur Ron Battery Condition: The Sur Ron battery is supposed to take 500 cycles before it very gradually becomes less powerful and less efficient. You should be able to get 1000 cycle charges out of a Sur Ron battery. If you are between 500 and 1000 cycles you may find that your speed, power, and range will become less with each charge.

It is highly recommended to take your Sur Ron battery maintenance and storage seriously since we have heard guys lose a lot of range long before their 500th cycle which was due to improper care or storage. To learn how to make your Sur Ron battery last longer and for proper storage see our article Sur Ron Battery Care: Proper Charging And Storage For Prolonged Life.

Sur Ron Storm Bee

Since the Sur Ron Strom Bee is so new the rider feedback on the range is limited. The Strom Bee is supposed to get up to 65 miles (105km) but this may not be possible on the trails as the Sur Ron Storm Bee’s range is also dependent on the above conditions.

We will update this post shortly as reports from riders come on regarding the ranges they are getting.
